Giorgio

Acquerello /Watercolor 27 x 35
Giorgio,  mio figlio/Giorgio,  my son

I confess I have been struggling quite a lot with the eyes, they didn't turn out exactly the way they should have. But being the paper of a thinner quality I didn't want to take the risk of ruining it  altogether, so I decided to show the portrait just the way it is, and eventually try another time.

    credo venga meglio a olio...

Ciao

  12. Hi Jane ... thank you for joining my blog, great to see you there! :) Your portrait is very good and so are the eyes. If I may suggest, the only thing I would change is the highlight on George's right eye. (on the left looking at the page. If you bring it down slightly it will balance it up. Great artwork! :)

  13. you've got a good likeness jane .. the angle of the face is slightly different from the ref photo prehaps that's what makes you feel the eyes aren't right..right not to re work it ...i'm making lots of sketches of my family at the moment ..it's ver challenging

  14. Jane this is very good work! To add drama the artist in me wonders what a shadow glaze across the forehead brow, eye area and down the side of the nose would do! There is a darker shadow in those areas that would incorporate continuity to the whole piece.

  17. Jane, it's good. You're right about the eyes, but you have done a great job with the shadows of Giorgio's head and neck, and his hair is perfect. My only thought would be to give his head the tilt it has in the photo; I think it will give the portrait more verisimilitude.

  18. I find this gorgeously done. Only that if you compare it with the reference photo, I agree with you that the eyes need to be slightly better. Very good work, Jane.

  19. I like this. I think portraits of relatives are very difficult--we know the person too well and try too hard.

  25. It is a fabulous portrait with a very good likeness. But I find it is hard to judge by one picture, you have to know the person. I hope your son likes it, he's the real judge

Ciao, Arianna

  33. I agree with you about the eyes, but the most important in this portrait, I think, is that you captured your son's personality, Giorgio's attitude. This is wonderful!

  36. Very good portrait. Thin paper is a challenge - you have to have it right almost first time as it will not take changes. You did well xx
