Quando finisco.... / When I finish....

Olio su cartone/Oil on cardboard 46 x 62 cm

.......a block of watercolor I always keep the cardboard in the end, I use it for when I send watercolor paintings with the snail mail to protect them, or like here to paint in oil. Cardboard does absorb a lot, so before starting the real painting I do some underpainting, it can be acrylics or well diluted oil, I let it dry completely, and I find myself a perfect surface to paint on. Hope this can be of  interest to somebody.

  1. Hermoso retrato, amiga!

  4. I also keep the cardboard back of watercolour blocs for the same purpose, to protect paintings in the mail. But I did not know they could be used to paint on, great idea! Fabulous painting, Jane, her eye is beautiful and I like the colours you used!

  15. Very good portrait, Jane! Interesting pallette with strong warm-cold distinction. You also may use gesso to prime the cardboard.

  16. ME GUSTA MUCHÍSIMO PINTAR SOBRE CARTÓn,

  25. Bravo, Jane. This is brilliant, and I LOVE your portrait. I find it to be a most enigmatic painting; it's there, right in front of me, and yet there is something so elusive and mysterious about it. Intriguing!!!

  31. Oh Jane she is beautiful and what a story in her I see. I wonder if you use gesso on the cardboard if that would seal it for the oil painting. That stuff seals everything, your skin, your table, your paper your brushes. Just a thought funny how we keep and paint on everything. xoxoxo

  37. Let me be the fortieth artist to tell you this is very interesting coming from you. I don't see too many portraits on your site. I like this one. It has a "California girl" look. I agree with Nora, a hand adds depth and interest.
